Initial Visit
Once you have made an appointment to see the doctor, we would welcome you to our office, and have you fill out the paper work. This gives Dr. Pearson the necessary information for a thorough consultation and examination. While we do like to be thorough, we like to eliminate as much paper work as possible, so our forms are not too long.
Dr. Pearson would then sit and talk with you about your problems and hear your history, which will be pertinent information for your care and healing. There is no charge for this consultation, and afterwards the doctor would tell you whether or not he feels that he can help you. If not, Dr. Pearson will refer you to another health care specialist that he feels could do a better job with your problem.
If the doctor feels that he can help you, an examination is the next step. Orthopedic, neurologic and chiropractic tests will be performed to determine the exact cause of your problem. After the initial testing, the Dr. may want to see some X-rays (taken in the office), a CT (CAT) scan, or MRI (both are referred out to the hospital, or to the Imaging Center).
The Dr. will consider the test results, applying factors such as how long you’ve had the problem, your overall health, and the extent of the injury or illness.
Dr. Pearson wants you to understand your problem and the treatment thereof, and take an active role in your recovery. If you ever have a question, he will take the extra time to give you an answer. If the doctor doesn’t have the answer immediately, he will research your question, and call you back with the information you request.
Patient Forms
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. We will request that you complete our patient forms located in the New Patient Center. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your condition.
Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Pearson to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Pearson to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Pearson will perform a complete chiropractic examination to evaluate the your spinal and overall health. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
X-Ray Studies
Depending on your specific condition, we may take X-rays as well. X-ray findings help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify any misalignments and degeneration themselves.
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. Pearson will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:
- How can you help me?
- How often do I need to come in?
- What will my treatment cost?
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays (if necessary), Dr. Pearson will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. Dr. Pearson will provide the best treatment and wellness program for your needs.
Treatment
Once it is determined that chiropractic care is appropriate for you and your specific health concerns, you will receive your first treatment. This may include spinal adjustments, physiotherapy, and/or soft tissue massage. Dr. Pearson is proficient in a number of different techniques, and she will determine with you which technique is best for you and your specific condition. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime.
Additional Instructions
Prior to leaving, the doctor will make suggestions/instructions to incorporate outside of treatment that will enhance your care. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, we will work with you also to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized treatment and wellness plan. The purpose of your specific treatment/wellness plan is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
